NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 24 – A police officer has been arrested after authorities recovered approximately 20 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa during an operation in Dagoretti Sub-County, Nairobi.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Muthangari Police Station conducted the operation on Thursday, following a tip-off from members of the public.
During the raid at the officer’s residence, police recovered two bags containing six bales of suspected cannabis sativa wrapped in yellow tape.
The suspect was immediately taken into police custody and is awaiting processing before being arraigned in court to face relevant narcotics-related charges.
Police also confirmed that the recovered drugs have been secured as exhibits for use in the ongoing investigation and prosecution.
The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to enforcing the law impartially, emphasizing that no individual is above the law regardless of their rank or position.
“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to upholding the rule of law without fear or favour. Any person, regardless of status or position, found to be engaging in criminal activities will be subjected to due process,” the NPS said.
The arrest comes as security agencies continue to intensify efforts to dismantle narcotics trafficking networks and reinforce accountability within the police service.
