NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 4 – The pirated sports streaming site “score808.US” has been shut down in Nairobi following a coordinated operation by the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) and the National Police Service.
The raid, conducted in Makadara Subcounty on October 29, targeted the site for unauthorized streaming of sports content.
With a strong user base of over 21,000 active visitors at any time and 27.6 million unique global visitors in the past year, the platform saw substantial traffic from Kenya, contributing 32.08 percent of its users.
The site offered unauthorized streaming of premium sports content, including English Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A matches.
During the raid, KECOBO officials seized the platform’s backend database, a laptop, and a mobile phone used to operate the site, now under forensic analysis by the Police Cyber Crime Unit.
Additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
George Nyakweba, KECOBO’s Acting Executive Director, emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property rights to safeguard Kenya’s creative industry and government tax revenue.
Frikkie Jonker of Irdeto, a digital platform cybersecurity firm, praised the operation as a significant step toward combating piracy across Africa and supporting legitimate content owners.
The shutdown of “score808.US” reflects Kenya’s commitment to curbing piracy and securing revenue for both the creative industry and government services.
