NAIROBI, Kenya, June 17, 2026 – Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) chair Harriet Okach believes the upcoming edition of the National Sevens Circuit (NSC) will unearth more gems for the national teams.
Basking in the glory of a renewed partnership from gaming firm Sportpesa, the supremo said the tournament provides a proper breeding ground for talented players to stake a claim for a place in Shujaa and Kenya Lionesses.
“The National Sevens Circuit is the heartbeat of Kenyan rugby and the foundation upon which future national stars are built. We have watched this competition produce players who went on to become Africa 7s champions, represent Kenya at the Olympic Games and elevate our standing on the global stage. That is the proof of concept and we welcome other like-minded partners to join us in supporting this platform,” Okach said.
The tournament has been boosted by a Ksh 34.14 million sponsorship by gaming firm Sportpesa.
Out of the kitty, Ksh 16.14 million will go towards the competitive infrastructure of the game, supporting host clubs, Kenya Rugby Union operations and prize money across all six legs.
The rest of the package will be channeled into fan engagement through improved broadcast production, livestreaming and matchday experiences.
The tournament is set for its 25th edition, with Prinsloo 7s kicking off proceedings on July 25-26 in Nakuru before attention shifts to Kisumu for Dala 7s, a week later.
Other legs of the annual showpiece include Christie 7s (Nairobi), Kabeberi 7s (Nairobi), Driftwood (Mombasa) and Embu 7s (Embu).
Defending champions KCB Rugby will be angling to tighten their grip on the competition, having already bagged five titles (2013, 2014, 2019, 2023, 2025).
The bankers ward off the challenge of Strathmore University Leos to claim their fifth going in last year’s edition.
