KISUMU, Kenya Mar 10 – Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo, and his Transport counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen, have urged Nyanza leaders to unite in pursuit of a transformative economic agenda for the region.
“The county has rich resources in the agricultural sector and the blue economy that, if properly utilized, stand to benefit the local community,” said CS Owalo during the burial of Kenya Airport’s Authority (KAA) Acting Managing Director Henry Ogoye’s Mother in Macalder Kanyaruanda Ward, Nyatike Sub County, Migori.
“We want to register all those who lost their animals because when we get the special funds we can also help those who have lost their goats by buying them new ones and starting fresh,” stated Governor Benjamin Cheboi.
CS Murkomen emphasized the necessity of unity in realizing the region’s economic potential, stating, “It is only through working in unity that the transformative economic agenda can be fully optimized.”
Furthermore, CS Murkomen disclosed plans for an Airstrip Fund policy proposal, aiming to facilitate each county in having at least one airstrip for improved air transport accessibility.
Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omolo urged Nyanza leaders to prioritize peace and unity, emphasizing their role in driving the country’s socioeconomic transformation agenda.
“Migori Governor Dr. Ochilo Ayacko, present at the burial, called for enhanced collaboration between the national government and county administrations,” noted Governor Ayacko. He specifically appealed for support from the Ministry of Roads to improve road networks leading to Muhuru and Sori bays, facilitating easy transportation of produce to local markets and enhancing economic opportunities for residents.
The collective call for unity and collaboration underscores the importance of coordinated efforts in advancing economic development and prosperity in the Nyanza region.
