NAIROBI, Kenya, July 7 – High-end Safari camp Ngerende in the Wild has reopened its doors after it was closed down in 2019 due to Covid-19 and tough economic challenges.
The facility opened its door for both local and international visitors this week as tourism sector rebounds from lockdown measures such as local and international flights bans, among others, that were introduced to curb the spread of the virus.
Tourism industry players bore the full brunt of lockdowns as the number of visitors declined, forcing a majority of them to close shutdown.
However, after the lockdown measures were lifted locally and globally, the sector is slowly recovering with the number of tourists arrival rising everyday.
“We deal with international clientele. So, we were adversely affected (by the Covid-19), which led to the closure of the property and of course economic heat,” the property owners Eunice Kaigai told Capital Business.
“But now, we are recovering and we have done renovation,” she added.
Ngerende runs two properties at the expansive Masai Mara National Reserve that includes Ngerende in the Wild Lakeview and Ngerende in the Wild Riverview, which offer 16 high-end suites that can host 32 people.
Visitors pay between $2,000 in peak season and $800 in low seasons.
At a time of the interview, the facility had been fully booked ahead of the Wildbeast migration slated for this month.
The facility offers visitors vantage positions to see one of the wonders of the world as it is perched just beside Masai Mara’s lush Paradise Plain.
