NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 16 – The National Treasury of Kenya has collected Sh2.43 trillion in revenue in the first seven months of the 2025/2026 financial year.
In a gazette notice dated February 13, the Treasury said that as of January 30, 2026, the government had achieved 54 percent of its Sh4.43 trillion revenue target. Tax revenue was the largest contributor, accounting for Sh1.34 trillion.
The report shows the government also relied heavily on borrowing during the period.
About Sh732.5 billion was raised through Treasury bills and bonds, Sh234.3 billion from international partners and commercial lenders, and Sh117.8 billion through government fees and internal charges.
During the same period, Sh885.7 billion was spent on salaries and operations.
The Teachers Service Commission received the largest allocation at Sh225 billion, followed by the Ministry of Defence at Sh103.4 billion, the State Department for Basic Education at Sh79.6 billion and the National Police Service at Sh71.7 billion.
The Treasury further noted that Sh1.075 trillion was used for debt repayment, underscoring the growing pressure of public debt on government finances.
