NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 3 – Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Eng. Kipkemoi Kibias has denied claims that he delayed or influenced the recruitment of the company’s substantive CEO to remain in office.
In a statement, Kibias described the allegations as false, saying the recruitment process has been conducted under established legal and corporate governance procedures, which he has respected in his role as acting head of the state corporation.
“I wish to categorically state that allegations suggesting I delayed or influenced the recruitment process in order to continue serving in an acting capacity or to benefit from the office are false and without any factual basis,” he said.
Kibias also disputed reports that he had applied for the position during the second recruitment process, saying the claims were published without seeking his response.
According to him, he was not contacted to confirm whether he had submitted an application before the reports were published, resulting in inaccurate information being circulated.
He attributed delays in concluding the recruitment process to ongoing court proceedings, which affected the KETRACO Board’s quorum and its ability to complete the exercise within the expected timelines.
Kibias said these were legal and governance issues that were beyond his control.
He added that his priority throughout his tenure as acting managing director has been to ensure continuity of the company’s operations while providing stable leadership.
Kibias said he remains committed to supporting the completion of the recruitment process once the KETRACO Board is fully constituted and able to discharge its mandate.
