Spotify’s 2025 Global Impact List has placed Kenyan music firmly on the world map, showcasing the 25 Kenyan songs with the highest international streams in the first half of the year.
Topping the list is ‘Time (Mimi)’ by Idd Aziz and German collaborator Dhali, a spiritual Afrohouse track that’s resonated from Nairobi to Berlin.
Aziz dominates the list with several entries, including ‘Mentuliza’ with Anthony Keyrouz and Sleiman Damien, ‘Penda’ with Keyrouz and JimmX, and ‘Nihurumie.’ His unique blend of Swahili rhythms and electronic soul is clearly finding a global audience in nightclubs, beach lounges, and underground radio circuits alike.
But this musical export movement is not a one-man show. The Global Impact List spans a rich spectrum of Kenyan talent and genre. From Afropop and alt-R&B to gengetone and Afro-fusion, the diversity of sound is helping define a new wave of Kenyan identity abroad.
Sauti Sol’s Bien, appears multiple times through cross-continental collaborations, including ‘All I Need’ with German producer Rammor and ‘Safari’ with Somali artist Suldaan Seeraar. His adaptability as a solo act is making waves in Europe and beyond.
Meanwhile, Njerae’s ‘Beg For It’ is the only solo female Kenyan entry on the list which is an emotionally powerful song that continues to pick up momentum outside Kenya. Her recognition as Spotify’s EQUAL Artist for June 2025 underscores her growing international profile.
