Nearly two decades after high school, celebrated filmmaker Erick Muriuki and renowned comedian Doug Mutai have joined forces once again, channeling their shared passion for the arts into an exciting new venture: A Very Kenyan Sketch Show.
This trailblazing series redefines Kenyan comedy through clever satire, offering a humorous lens on the everyday behaviors and quirks of the common mwananchi.
The show masterfully magnifies the hilarity and tension of daily Kenyan life with sharp cinematography and dynamic storytelling. Using sketch comedy as its core, it invites audiences to reflect on their own experiences while delivering plenty of laughs.
The core cast is a showcase of Kenya’s rising stars, including Morris Mwangi (Faithless, Baba Twins), Faiz Ouma (Untying Kantai, Volume), and Sanchez Marley (Untying Kantai, Nairobby). The series also features a diverse lineup of guest appearances from Marya Okoth and Eddie Butita of A Nurse Toto, TikTok sensation and dancer Collo Blue, and Instagram star Sisinei Parmeres, adding to the show’s dynamic energy.
Co-produced by Stand-up Collective and Tribesman Pictures, the series made its highly anticipated debut at an exclusive screening on January 4th at the Nairobi Laugh Bar. Attendees were captivated by the impeccable production quality and the ingenious humor, with many praising it as a milestone for Kenyan comedy. The excitement continued online with a global YouTube premiere on January 6th, where viewers around the world eagerly tuned in. The overwhelming positive response has heightened anticipation for the full season’s release.
