Kenyan artist Karun Mungai has officially become a voting member of the Recording Academy.
The Recording Academy is the the organization responsible for selecting nominees and winners at the prestigious Grammy Awards.
Sharing the news on social media, the ‘Catch A Vibe’ crooner expressed how much of an honor it is to now be part of the Academy, especially in a space where representation from African and independent artists is often limited.
She also revealed that she is excited about contributing her unique perspective as a Kenyan, African, and alternative artist to the Grammy voting process.
“I’m thrilled to announce that I am now officially a voting member of the @RecordingAcademy. This is such a meaningful opportunity, not just for me, but also for the wider representation of African and independent artists in global spaces like this,” she shared.
The mother of one rose to fame in the 2010s as part of the alternative hip-hop group Camp Mulla known for songs like ‘Party Don’t Stop’, ‘Addicted’ and ‘Hold it Down’. Her induction marks a significant moment for Kenyan artists as they continue to make their mark on the global music scene.
She joins a growing list of Kenyan creatives who are now members of the Recording Academy, including Justo Asikoye (2022), Sauti Sol (2023), and tech entrepreneur Melissa Kariuki (2025).
