NAIROBI, Kenya, June 15 – European human resources technology firm Factorial has raised $150 million in a Series D funding round, pushing its valuation to $2.5 billion as it accelerates the rollout of its AI-powered workforce management platform across global markets, including Africa.
The funding round was led by General Catalyst, with participation from existing investors Atomico and Four Rivers. General Catalyst will also provide an additional $540 million in non-dilutive financing through its Customer Value Fund, bringing the total funding commitment to more than $690 million.
The investment comes as businesses increasingly adopt digital tools to manage human resources, payroll and compliance functions.Factorial serves more than 16,000 businesses across over 90 countries and is repositioning itself from a traditional software provider to an AI-driven workforce operations platform.
The company said its new platform, Factorial One, integrates human resources, finance and IT functions while using artificial intelligence to automate routine workplace processes and support employees in completing tasks.
Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Jordi Romero said the company has spent the last decade building its software platform and is now focused on integrating AI into workplace operations.
“Ten years ago, we started Factorial as a SaaS company. Today, Factorial is an AI-first company,” Romero said.
The company believes growing demand for digital HR solutions presents a significant opportunity in emerging markets, where businesses are increasingly seeking technology to manage payroll, compliance, recruitment and employee performance.
Across Africa, adoption of digital HR tools has been rising as organisations move away from manual systems and spreadsheets in response to growing regulatory requirements and workforce management needs.
Industry data cited by the company shows the African payroll software market is expected to expand significantly over the coming years, driven by cloud adoption, compliance requirements and the growth of digital business infrastructure.
Factorial said it plans to use the new funding to expand its AI capabilities and strengthen its presence in key international markets as companies increasingly seek technology that can automate administrative tasks and improve workforce management.
