NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 18 – Directline Assurance Company Limited is facing a liquidation petition filed at the High Court in Garissa by three creditors, with the matter set for hearing on October 1, 2026.

The petition was filed by Yusra Ahmed Abubakar, Maryam Maamun, a minor suing through her aunt and next friend Yusra Ahmed Abubakar, and Umma Salama Maamun, a minor suing through her mother and next friend Yusra Ahmed Abubakar.

The petition was presented to the High Court on July 27, 2026, according to a notice published on August 14 by the Deputy Registrar, High Court of Kenya at Garissa.

“NOTICE is given that a petition for the liquidation of the above-named company by the High Court was on the 27th day of July, 2026 presented to the said Court by Yusra Ahmed Abubakar, Maryam Maamun (minor suing through aunt and next friend Yusra Ahmed Abubakar) and Umma Salama Maamun (minor suing through mother and next friend Yusra Ahmed Abubakar),” the notice states.

The petition does not mean that Directline Assurance has been liquidated. The notice gives the company’s creditors and contributories an opportunity to support or oppose the application when it comes up for hearing.

Yusra Ahmed Abubakar is listed as the first creditor and petitioner, while Maryam Maamun and Umma Salama Maamun are listed as the second and third creditors and petitioners respectively.

The notice invites any creditor or contributory who wishes to support or oppose the making of an order on the petition to appear at the hearing, either personally or through an advocate.

A copy of the petition will also be furnished to any creditor or contributory who requests it upon payment of the regulated charge. The request is to be made through Wambua Kilonzo & Co. Advocates, listed as the advocates for the petitioners.

The notice does not state the amount allegedly owed to the three petitioners or provide details of the circumstances giving rise to the petition.

It also does not set out the specific grounds relied upon by the creditors in seeking liquidation.

Those details are therefore yet to emerge from the court proceedings, and the petition is not a finding by the court that Directline Assurance is unable to meet its obligations.

The October 1 hearing will give the petitioners and the company an opportunity to present their respective positions before the High Court.

Other creditors or contributories who wish to participate in the proceedings will also have an opportunity to make their views known to the court.

The High Court in Garissa will therefore determine the liquidation petition and consider any objections or responses filed in the matter.
