NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 21 – Chinese retailer Global Supermart has opened a new outlet at Crystal Rivers Mall in Athi River, strengthening the mall’s position as a key shopping and lifestyle destination along the Mombasa Road corridor.
The opening marks a major retail investment for the area, with Global Supermart becoming the mall’s newest anchor tenant. The store offers a wide range of affordable household goods, electronics and lifestyle products, aimed at improving convenience for residents while boosting foot traffic at the mall.
Crystal Rivers Mall said the entry of Global Supermart signals renewed investor confidence in the rapidly growing Athi River area and is expected to attract more retailers and service providers to the development.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Pauline Kieleko, Chairperson of the Safaricom Staff Pension Scheme, said the launch reflects strong confidence in the mall and the long-term economic prospects of the Mombasa Road corridor.
“The opening of Global Supermart represents a renewed vote of confidence in the area’s economic potential and marks a new chapter for Crystal Rivers Mall,” said Kieleko.

The mall is positioning itself as a fully integrated lifestyle hub and plans further tenant expansions and customer-focused enhancements. It already hosts several key businesses, including Chandarana Supermarket, Avenue Hospital, House of Maji, Supreme Executive Hair Studio, River Rose Cosmetics, a food court, and a Chinese restaurant.
Global Supermart’s entry is expected to benefit communities in Athi River, Mlolongo, Kitengela, Syokimau and nearby estates, by providing access to a wide range of products under one roof.
Beyond retail, the new store has created employment opportunities for local residents and strengthened local supply chains by supporting small-scale producers and distributors.
Mall management said the opening is part of a broader effort to revitalise Crystal Rivers Mall into a community-focused destination that serves families, professionals and businesses along the busy Mombasa Road corridor.
