NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 25 – Belkin Limited has recalled its Belkin Boost Charge Pro Fast Wireless Charger for Apple Watch + Power Bank 10 model number BDPOO5 over a lithium cell flaw.
In a statement, the COMESA Competition Authority Registrar, Meti Demissie Disasa, stated that the company voluntarily recalled the product after it reported a manufacturing defect of its cells, which might have caused the product to overheat and pose a fire hazard to consumers.
Customers who have already purchased the product have been urged to cease using it and place it away from anything flammable.
“In a recall notice published on its website, Belkin has requested consumers who purchased the affected product to immediately stop using it, disconnect it from any power supply or other products, and place it in a safe, dry location away from anything flammable or anything that can damage the power bank,” he stated.
Affected consumers have therefore been advised to apply for a refund by filling out a form that is available on the Belkin website.
Furthermore, Disasa further noted that the affected consumers within the common market may forward the matter to the country’s national consumer institutions or any other bodies mandated with consumer protection.
Consumers in the COMESA member states have thus been urged to report the sale of the recalled products to the commission by contacting Steen Kamukama, Director of Consumer Welfare and Advocacy Division.
