NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 14 – Equity Bank has awarded scholarships worth Sh2.8 billion to 128 students joining prestigious global universities under the Equity Leaders Program (ELP).

The beneficiaries, admitted to 63 universities across North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, include 87 from Kenya, four from Uganda, 33 from Rwanda, and four from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to the bank, the scholarships, valued at Sh2.79 billion for the four-year undergraduate studies, come with an additional airlift token of up to Sh200,000 to facilitate the students’ transition to their respective institutions.

This year’s cohort includes 16 students headed to Ivy League universities — one to Columbia University, four to Harvard University, eight to Princeton University, and three to the University of Pennsylvania.

With the latest admissions, a total of 1,098 students have benefited from fully funded scholarships through the ELP since its inception.
