NAKURU, Kenya, Nov 7 – Two legislators from Turkana County have today blamed pressure for new constituencies for the insecurity in the North Rift.
Turkana County Woman Representative, Cecilia Ngitit and Turkana East MP, Nicholas Ngikor said some leaders with expansionist ideas were inciting their communities to displace their neighbours.
Speaking outside Rift Valley Directorate of Criminal Investigations Regional Headquarters on Tuesday, the duo defended their community saying they were a peace living people who lived peacefully with their international neighbours from Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia.
Ngitit said Turkana was also home to the largest refugee camp and the residents were co-existing harmoniously with the visitors.
She wondered why the situation could not be the same with their neighbours in Baringo and Pokot.
“What is displacements so that they can harness land for extra Constituencies in favour of perceived superior communitie,” she said
Ngikor faulted Tiaty MP, William Kamket for his continued for his persistent claims that Kapedo was in Baringo Country.
He observed that boundaries in Kenya were marked way before the current generation of leaders were born and wondered why a section of people wanted to alter them.
“The issue of Kapedo should be put to rest, everyone is free to live there but it remains in Turkana,” he said.
Last week, Kamket, his Sigor counterpart, Peter Lochakapong and West Pokot Senator, Julius Murgor were also grilled DCI over the insecurity in their region.
