NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 1 – Steve Chege has rejoined Safaricom as the Group Chief External Affairs Officer, overseeing operations in Kenya and Ethiopia.
Chege will lead Safaricom’s regulatory and external affairs, public policy, communications, media relations, corporate social investments, ESG and sustainability efforts, and the integration of purpose across the Group.
He returns from Vodacom Group, where he served as Chief External Affairs Officer since 2021, supporting eight African markets, including South Africa, Tanzania, DRC, Mozambique, Lesotho, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Egypt.
At Vodacom, Chege helped resolve key licence renewals, tax issues, and spectrum acquisitions, while driving policy reforms in mobile money and services and advancing ESG initiatives.
