NAIROBI, Kenya Feb 14 – The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has ratified the Jubilee Party National Executive Committee (NEC) changes that kicked out Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leaning officials.

In what has dealt a major blow to the larger Azimio coalition, the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu said the changes that saw three officials suspended were procedural.

In the NEC meeting held on February 2, 2023, the party’s Vice Chair David Murathe, Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, and National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi were stripped off their positions.

“The Office has taken note of the contents of your submissions and the resolutions and acknowledges that the Party Constitution was in order in convening the meeting,” Nderitu said.

The new officials as a result appointed Eldas MP Adan Keynan as the acting Vice Chairperson, EALA MP Kanini Kega as the acting Secretary General, and Kitui Woman Representative Rachael Nyamai as the National Treasurer.

Nderitu meanwhile asked the new officials to observe the Azimio agreement in exiting the alliance.

“Kindly observe the provisions of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition agreement and the role of respecting party organs,” she said.

Following the suspension of the trio, the party’s Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism is set to formally kickstart their official removal from the party.

Nderitu however asked the party “to adhere to the provisions of the party Constitution as you undertake the said process”.

The new NEC officials had announced that within the next six months, the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) will ratify their decision by the National Executive Committee to exit the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya.

The 32 Jubilee leaders who sanctioned the ouster of the Kioni-led faction met with President William Ruto and pledged their allegiance to his administration.
