Police Foil Sh4.6 Million Cannabis Smuggling Attempt in Nakuru

NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 19 – Police in Nakuru have intercepted a drug trafficking attempt involving cannabis valued at approximately Sh4.62 million following a swift operation by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU).

Acting on intelligence, detectives laid an ambush along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway after receiving information that a suspicious vehicle, was ferrying narcotics.

“When officers spotted the vehicle, they attempted to stop it, but the driver refused to comply and sped off, triggering a high-speed chase towards Subukia. Police eventually immobilised the vehicle by deflating its front tyre, bringing the pursuit to an end,” read a statement by the National Police Service.

Two suspects were arrested at the scene. A search of the vehicle uncovered seven sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 154 kilograms.

The suspects are in custody awaiting arraignment, while the seized drugs have been secured as exhibits.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains steadfast in its commitment to dismantling drug syndicates and safeguarding communities from the dangers of narcotics abuse,” the NPS said via their X account
