NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 12 – National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has laughed off attempts by his critics who are out to dislodge him as the Democratic Party Leader days after he teamed up with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
While referencing a petition filed at the Registrar of Political Parties by three members of his party who are challenging his move to team up Deputy President William Ruto-led alliance, Muturi noted that he was unmoved.
“For those that are desirous of trying to begin that old game just know and remember that it is only a fool that does one thing repeatedly and hopes to get different results,’ he said.
Muturi on Saturday last week formally joined the Kenya Kwanza Alliance noting that its ideologies were similar with those of the Democratic Party which he leads.
His move however, sparked internal wrangles a day later when three members Wambugu Nyamu, Daniel Munene and Kingori Choto claimed that Muturi violated the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) resolution which resolved that the party will not join any coalition before the August polls.
In their letter to the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, the trio wants “the coalition document purporting to join the Kenya Kwanza Alliance rejected.”
An unbowed Muturi on Tuesday hit back and affirmed that his resolve to better the lives of Kenyans with his newfound friends will not be dampened.
“You tried it with my brother Moses Wetangula of FORD Kenya, Mwangi Kiunjuri of The Service Party, William Kabogo of Tujibebe Party but all those attempts failed,” he said.
Muturi dismissed the petition noting that he had been given blessing to team up with like-minded parties with a view of forming the next government.
“I promised during the Democratic Party National Delegates Convention that as instructed, I would consult people of goodwill, like-minded parties and party leaders. My party has given me that backing,” he said.
A former ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Muturi maintained that his move to team up with Kenya Kwanza was pegged on the need to salvage the fortunes of Kenyans.
“We are determined to walk with Kenyans side by side in ensuring that every Kenyan has food on the table. We want this country to move forward, and we cannot do that if all we live in is history. We cannot allow history to enslave us,” he said.
Muturi is rumored to be angling for the position of deputy President in the August polls.
He has rallied Kenyan to support Ruto noting that he is best suited to become Kenya’s fifth President.
“We have distinguished ourselves that we are backing a horse and not a mule. We will walk the talk,” he said.
