Mudavadi wants economic recovery plan on G7 agenda after US-Iran truce

NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 16 – Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is urging world leaders attending the G7 Summit to develop a comprehensive recovery strategy for economies affected by global conflicts such as the US-Iran war which is entering the 108th day.

Speaking ahead of President William Ruto’s attendance at the G7 Summit, Mudavadi who is also the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary said the impact of recent crises continues to weigh heavily on developing countries.

While welcoming recent reports of a peace agreement aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East, Mudavadi cautioned that the economic damage already inflicted on countries would take years to reverse.

“There has to be a conversation on a recovery strategy for many economies, because the impact, the consequences, the inflationary pressures have already fed into the systems of these countries.”

“Therefore is going to be a prolonged recovery period, and this needs to be tackled effectively so that we can have critical intervention mechanisms from the G7, and also from the G7 in the context of global institutions like the IMF and the World Bank. This is a conversation that needs to be taken as a second aspect that is serious,” he said.

Mudavadi stressed that global stability depends not only on ending conflicts but also on supporting countries as they navigate the long-term economic consequences of war and geopolitical tensions.

The PCS said the group must broaden its focus beyond Europe and the Middle East and address the growing humanitarian and security challenges facing Africa.

“A classic example is the Sudan crisis. I think these are areas, in my view, that will require very, very special attention, and concrete outcomes and proposals on the way forward will be very, very useful to help in stabilizing the global economy and also putting an end to the conflicts that have caused severe disruption and humanitarian crisis in many countries,” Mudavadi said.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary also called for coordinated global action to address emerging health threats, including Ebola outbreaks, which he said require a united international response.

According to Mudavadi, stronger action on African conflicts and health emergencies would contribute significantly to global stability, economic recovery and humanitarian protection.

He expressed hope that the summit would produce concrete proposals aimed at resolving conflicts and strengthening international cooperation on issues affecting developing nations.

“We anticipate that there will be a need to have a conversation on the global response to the Ebola challenge. (4:15) It needs, again, a united and concerted effort,” Mudavadi added.
