NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 23 – Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to embark on a three-day working visit as Nairobi looks to enhance relations with Beijing.
China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin confirmed Mudavadi’s upcoming visit to Beijing.
Mudavadi who also doubles up as Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Minister will tour China from January 24-26.
“At the invitation of Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya Musalia Mudavadi will pay an official visit to China from January 24 to 26,” China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday.
The specific agenda of the trip is yet to be disclosed.
Mudavadi’s visit comes three months after President William Ruto met with his Chinese Counterpart Xi Jinping during a three-day tour of Beijing in his first visit to China since assuming office in September 2022.
State House said on October 15 last year, that Ruto’s trip to Beijing underscored the robust bilateral relations between Kenya and China and highlight Kenya’s active participation in the 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Forum convened world leaders in Beijing for talks on cooperation and partnership, emphasising infrastructure development and enhanced connectivity across continents and peoples.
President Ruto delivered a keynote address headlined “Digital Economy as a New Source of Growth,” at the High-Level Forum, highlighting Kenya’s advancements in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and innovation.
Additionally, the President also participated in a Kenya-China investors roundtable to emphasize Kenya’s standing as an investment hub for Chinese companies, aiming to forge mutually beneficial partnerships for both nations and their peoples.
