NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 3 – Kasarani Member of Parliament John Njoroge is due to be charged in court on Thursday for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a construction firm.

It is alleged that the Member of Parliament was arrested in a sting operation that the commission arranged after he demanded the bribe.

“We got a complaint from a contractor who was waiting for payment of Sh3.3 million as payment for a tuition block that he had completed and the MP demanded for Sh150,000 as bribe so as to speed up the process,” EACC’s Chief Executive Halakhe Waqo said.

“Njoroge who was arrested earlier today and put in our cells will be charged tomorrow in the Anti-Corruption Court,” added Waqo.

Njoroge who is a former deputy mayor was the whistle-blower in the Mavoko cemetery land scandal.

His arrest comes as the jubilee government strives to fight graft and rid itself of rogue politicians in its leadership.
