Kenyan comedy stars Njugush, Mammito, and Jackie Vike (aka Awinja) are embracing the Barbie trend with a hilarious twist.
It all started with Njugush, who had Kenyans in stitches when he shared a TikTok and Instagram video of himself dressed in a pink suit, singing a parody of the Barbie theme song in Kikuyu.
Mammito soon joined in on the fun, posting her own Barbie-themed video. She sported an outdated pink wig, an oversized dress, and pink rubber shoes, creating a look that had Kenyans bursting with laughter.
Not to be outdone, Awinja also got in on the action, delighting fans with a video set in a fully pink-themed house. The decor was adorned with outdated pink items, including a pink thermo flask, while Awinja herself rocked a pink petticoat and a pink outfit on her hen, leaving everyone in rolling on the ground.
‘Barbie,’ a vibrant and pink-themed movie inspired by the iconic doll of the same name, graced the silver screens on July 21, 2023. Beyond its candy-coated visuals, the film fearlessly delves into pertinent themes of sexism and the importance of self-determination, all while delivering a delightful dose of humor.
Margot Robbie shines as the lead, bringing Barbie to life, and Ryan Gosling charms as Ken, her companion. The duo’s on-screen chemistry is further accentuated by clever and at times, delightfully obscure, witty jokes. Despite the film’s overall charm, it has received a modest rating of 3.0.
The masterful marketing strategy of pairing the soundtrack “Barbie World” featuring Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj, along with the soul-stirring melody of “What was I made for?” by Billie Eilish, proved to be an ingenious move that captivated audiences and enticed many to flock to watch the film.
