NAIROBI, Kenya, January 30, 2026 – Multiple Olympic and world champion Faith Kipyegon is among thousands of athletes who have been invited for next month’s Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour in Eldoret.
Kipyegon has been registered for the women’s 2km loop where she will lock horns with another elite name in the form of double Olympic and world champion Beatrice Chebet.
It will be third appearance in the World Athletics Gold label event after previous participation in 2023 and last year.
In 2023, she clocked 33:55 to win the senior women’s 10km race before dropping out midway through the same competition in last year’s edition.
On the other hand, Chebet is in line for a second appearance after finishing fourth in the first edition of the competition in 2022 — clocking 34:33 in the senior women’s 10km.
Other names to look forward to in the women’s 2km loop include world silver medalist Dorcas Ewoi, who clocked a world lead of 4:01.22 in the women’s 1500m at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on Sunday.
World 800m champion Lilian Odira and Olympic bronze medalist Mary Moraa are other big names that will be battling for glory in the same race.
As has been the case with the last four editions, this year’s competition will be staged at the Lobo Village.
Competition is projected to be cutthroat across six categories, including senior men and women’s 10km, under 20 men’s 8km, under 20 women’s 6km as well as the men and women’s 2km loop.
