NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 21 — A convicted paedophile quietly freed in November 2022 has been denied bail in a fresh defilement case by a magistrate sitting at the Mavoko Law Courts in Athi River.
Terry Ray Krieger, an American citizen, was presented in court on accusations of defiling a 3-year-old girl at Athi River’s Great Wall Gardens.
His appearance on Tuesday followed an initial arraignment on November 10, a day following his arrest.
Trial magistrate Barbra Ojoo denied him bail describing the suspect as a fugitive of justice.
She said his conduct was a compelling reason to deny him bail.
In arriving at the division, the magistrate also considered the accused person’s previous criminal record.
The court dismissed a plea for leniency premised on the fact that he is an elderly man requiring urgent medical care.
The magistrate said she found no evidence to support the claim for medical considerations.
During his initial arraignment on November 10, the suspect pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault and being in the country illegally.
Ojoo slotted the case for a mention on November 27.
The accused had earlier been convicted for pedophile-related charges and sentenced to a 50-year jail term on December 2, 2014.
At the time, he was accused of filming minors naked and circulating the content.
Justice Justus Bwonong’a freed him from Kamiti GK Prison in November 2022.
