NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 25 — President William Ruto on Saturday continued with the onslaught on allies of his predecessor appointed to various parastatals with mass revocations.
In a gazette notice dated February 24, twenty-four appointees drawn from various boards were affected with new members having been appointed with immediate effect.
President Ruto revoked the the appointment of Wanjiku Wakogi as the Secretary to the State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC) and replaced her with Muyumba Simon Indimuli
He will serve for a period of 3 years.
At the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Ruto named Nairobi businessman Ugas Mohamed as the Board Chairperson revoking the appointment of Nick Nesbitt.
Mohamed unsuccessfully vied for the Wajir Governor’s seat in the 2022 General Election.
The President also appointed Sylvanus Maritim to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the Information and Communications Technology Authority revoking the appointment of Fredrick Owino.
Others include John Cheruiyot, Alice Wanjira Mutuma and George Ogalo, whose appointments to the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) board were revoked by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.
NACADA undertakes public education and awareness campaign against drug abuse, especially among youth in learning institutions.
Under the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo revoked the appointments of Mahmoud Mohamed Noor, Paul Muraguri Mureithi, Jackson Kiprotich Kemboi and Laura Chite who were installed by his predecessor Joe Mucheru.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir also reconstituted the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) Limited board and appointed four new members.
The CS appointed Jane Gatwiri Gatobu, Michael Maloba, Ashif Kassam and Mercylinne Chepkirui, to be KETRACO board members for a period of three 3 years, effective February 24, 2023.
Chirchir revoked previous appointments under Gazette Notice No. 4485 of 2022.
The CS also appointed Mark Nderitu Muturi, Milton Luchiri and Sammy Choge to be members of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
The three will also serve for a period of three years.
Moses Kuria, Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, revoked the appointments of Martha Muthoni Wariithi, Munyua Waiyaki, Eddy Njoroge, Edda Boyani and Kasili Mutambo as members of the National Standards Council.
Sustained purge
Officials who served under the former regime of President Uhuru Kenyatta have been falling in troves as the new administration stamps its authority.
KRA Commissioner General Githii Mburu who resigned on Thursday is among recent casualties .
Mburu was unlikely to survive in office to serve under newly-appointed Board Chairperson Antony Mwaura who battled multiple tax cases when Kenyatta was in office in what Ruto’s faction termed as “political persecution.”
“The board has today received the resignation letter of Commissioner General Githii Mburu who resigned to pursue personal interests,” KRA Board announced in a statement signed by Mwaura.
Rispah Simiyu, KRA’s Commissioner for Domestic Taxes, assumed in an acting capacity.
The board also dropped three commissioners and named Acting Commissioners in their place.
Those dropped are: Lilian Nyawanda (Customs and Border Control), Terra Saidimu (Intelligence and Strategic Operations) and David Kinuu (Corporate Support Services).
