TransUnion, FICO partner to expand credit access in Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 13 – TransUnion Kenya has partnered with analytics software provider FICO to introduce advanced credit risk solutions aimed at expanding financial access across Kenya.

The collaboration will integrate enriched data and advanced analytics to enhance lending prcesses, enabling financial institutions to better serve underserved individuals and Small, Micro, and Medium Enterprises (SMMEs).

The partnership introduces TransUnion’s CreditVision Variables and the FICO Score, designed to improve risk assessment and financial inclusion.

CreditVision Variables analyzes over 145 data sources and up to 24 months of historical payment data to provide a deeper view of consumer behavior.

Meanwhile, the FICO Score, tailored for the Kenyan market, uses predictive analytics based on more than 4 million records from TransUnion.

“These tools address key challenges in credit risk management by offering lenders deeper insights into borrower behavior, leading to more informed lending decisions,” said TransUnion Kenya CEO Morris Maina.

“Greater access to credit will help individuals and businesses improve their financial health and achieve their goals.”

FICO’s Vice President of Scores, Mike Manaton, highlighted the benefits of the partnership, noting that the FICO Score provides transparency and precision, helping lenders make informed decisions while empowering consumers to understand and improve their creditworthiness.

The partners expect these solutions to streamline credit allocation, enable risk-based pricing, and reduce friction in the approval process, ultimately increasing access to credit across Kenya.
