COLOMBO, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) — Sri Lanka’s navy said it apprehended a multiday fishing trawler with 200 kg of heroin valued at more than 4,000 million Sri Lankan rupees (12.3 million U.S. dollars) on Sunday.
The navy said in a statement that the operation was conducted by its intelligence unit and the police in the sea off Dondra in the south of Sri Lanka, and five people were arrested.
The narcotics bureau of Sri Lanka police will conduct further investigations, according to the navy.
The navy conducts regular patrols and search operations in the coastal and sea areas around the island to prevent the influx of drugs into the country.
