SINGAPORE, July 31 (Xinhua) — Singapore’s total employment grew by 11,300 in the second quarter of this year, compared with the growth of 4,700 in the previous quarter, according to the Ministry of Manpower Wednesday.
The growth was driven by new employment among non-Singaporean residents, while resident employment declined slightly.
Lower-skilled positions in the construction and manufacturing sectors contributed most to the non-resident employment growth.
Singapore registered the overall unemployment rate at 2.0 percent in June. Expecting the migrant domestic workers, the total employment in Singapore reached 3,714,800 by June.
