PARIS, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) — France’s gross domestic product (GDP) was revised down to zero growth quarter on quarter in the second quarter of 2026, from a preliminary estimate of 0.2-percent growth, according to revised data released Friday by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE).
Household consumption rebounded by 0.3 percent in the second quarter, following a 0.3-percent decline in the previous quarter. Meanwhile, government consumption increased by 0.4 percent, up from a 0.3 percent rise in the first quarter.
Exports rebounded strongly, rising 2.9 percent in the second quarter after falling 3.0 percent in the previous quarter, driven in particular by an increase in aeronautics exports. Imports increased 1.1 percent after declining 0.6 percent in the previous quarter.
Foreign trade made a positive contribution of 0.6 percentage points to GDP growth in the second quarter, reversing a negative contribution of 0.9 percentage points in the previous quarter, according to INSEE.
INSEE said the revisions reflected a further deterioration in agricultural production compared with the information available at the end of July, as well as stronger-than-expected prices for market services, which were not fully known at the end of July.
The institute also further revised down France’s GDP growth in the first quarter to a 0.2-percent contraction from the 0.1-percent contraction reported in May.
