Veteran Kenyan artist Mr Lenny has paid tribute to his fellow hitmaker Kunguru.
According to reports, Eric Onguru alias Kunguru known for some of the top hits of the early 2000s passed away on Sunday (19.03.2023). He is said to have been in and out of hospital for the last couple of years.
Mr Lenny took to Instagram on Monday (20.03.2023) to eulogize his friend and collaborator in a heartfelt post.
He reminisced about the good times and how they met by chance through Lucas of Ogopa Deejays who suggested that their unique voices would blend well together on a track.
Thus their first collabo titled ‘African Woman’ was born in 2006 and then the two released the hit song ‘Baby Don Go’. Mr Lenny reflected on the success of their collabo which went on to win a Kisima award and was nominated for a Kora award in South Africa.
Lenny also thanked Kunguru for his contribution to the Kenyan music industry and the memories they shared outside of the studio.
Radio host and former artist Gidi Gidi was one of the first personalities to send out condolences on social media.
In 2021, Kunguru made a comeback with another track featuring Mr Lenny titled ‘Come Baby Come.’
