NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 10 – The National Assembly Committee on Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers is set to question the Director General of the National Employment Authority as it continues its probe over the operations of Private Employment Agencies.
This comes as the government puts in efforts to address the perennial challenge of Kenyan migrant workers who continue to suffer in foreign countries.
MPs in the Committee in February demanded fresh registration of agencies that recruit Kenyans to work in foreign nations in order to govern the sector.
The lawmakers held that more Kenyans would end up in foreign countries as undocumented workers, citing existing cases of human trafficking.
Labour Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui last year revealed that only 40 percent of private recruitment agencies operating in the country are registered with the Authority.
Recently, there have been reports of Kenyans who were mistreated in Saudi Arabia.
