Modern Coast Bus vows to continue plying EAC routes despite suspension of operating license
A Modern Coast bus is lifted off after an accident in Kisii on December 28, 2022.

NAIROBI, Kenya Jan 1- Modern Coast Express Limited says it will continue ferrying passengers from Nairobi to Kampala, Kigali, and Bujumbura routes despite a government directive to suspend its Operating License.

Transport and Public Works Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkommen on Friday ordered the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to effect the ban after a bus in the company’s fleet was involved in another accident in Uganda killing six persons on Friday.

This comes days after another bus killed one person while reversing at Makutano Junction along Kisii – Nyamira Road after its driver failed to control the vehicle thereby hitting a stationary vehicle owned by another Sacco.

In a post on its Facebook page, Modern Coast has affirmed that it will comply with the NTSA ban adding that its local routes shall remain closed.

The bus company operates the Mombasa-Upcounty routes, Nairobi-Malindi, and Nairobi – Upcountry routes.

The Company clarified that it shall continue to offer courier services.
