KQ adds extra flights to Kisumu ahead of Raila Odinga’s burial

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 17 – Kenya Airways (KQ) has increased and upgraded its flights to Kisumu International Airport to accommodate high travel demand ahead of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s burial on Sunday.

In a statement on Friday, the national carrier said it has added three extra flights and upgraded five others on the Nairobi–Kisumu route between Friday and Monday.

According to KQ, two additional flights — KQ656 and KQ658 — will depart for Kisumu at 3:30 pm and 7:00 pm, respectively, on Friday. On Saturday, an extra flight, KQ650, will depart at 6:50 am, while KQ654 has been upgraded to a Boeing 737 and will leave at 8:05 am.

Similarly, both KQ654 (8:05 am) and KQ671 (7:00 pm) have been upgraded to Boeing 737s. The same adjustments will apply to flights KQ654 and KQ670 on Monday.

“We’ve increased our flight frequency to Kisumu over the weekend to accommodate the high travel demand. We remain committed to ensuring seamless travel for all our guests,” KQ said in a statement.

The surge in demand has also led to higher ticket prices, with a return flight from Nairobi to Kisumu currently going for about Sh25,160.
