NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 17 – Kericho County Referral Hospital on Monday was elevated from level 4 to a level 5 hospital.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who presented the upgrade certificate said, the upgrade will greatly enhance the delivery of healthcare services to the residents and Kenyans.
“The upgrading of the Kericho County Referral to a Level 5 Hospital will greatly enhance the delivery of healthcare services to the residents and Kenyans. This afternoon, I made an extensive tour of the hospital and issued an upgrade certificate to the hospital,” he said.
The quality of healthcare services offered to locals is anticipated to significantly increase because of its advancement to level 5 certification.
Additionally, the national government in collaboration with the Ministry of Health allocated Sh210 million to fund the hospital’s development, with a focus on improving the facility’s equipment.
Cabinet Secretary for Health Susan Nakhumicha said the upgrading acknowledges the hospital’s significant advancements in the realm of service delivery.
“This transformation signifies a promising future for healthcare services within the region,” she said.
She added the Sh210million fund will be primarily utilized to bolster the hospital’s equipment, ensuring it can cater to the evolving healthcare needs of the community effectively.
Also, Gachagua inaugurated the Hospital’s Oncology and the Oxygen Concentration Plant and officially opened the BioSafety Level 3 (BSL) Tuberculosis Dependency Laboratory, as well as the Molecular Laboratory at the Kemri Walterid Army Institute of Research with support of US Department of Defence.
The newly inaugurated BSL 3 lab is set to become a pivotal national TB reference laboratory, extending support to counties in Kenya’s Rift and Western Regions.
