NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 13 – Kenya has been ranked first globally in artificial intelligence (AI) usage, highlighting the growing adoption of AI among internet users in the country.
According to the Digital 2026 Mid-year Global Update Report, 97.5 percent of Kenyan internet users aged 16 and above use AI.
Kenya has in recent times seen increased adoption of AI services among learners, individuals, companies and employees to enhance work and productivity.
Firms in the country are also using AI to automate customer support, streamline credit scoring and improve other business processes.
Safaricom is among the companies adopting AI, with the technology being used across its platforms, including M-Pesa customer care services and financial fraud detection.
The United Arab Emirates ranked second globally with an AI uptake of 94.2 percent, followed by Indonesia at 93.6 percent and Egypt at 93.4 percent.
Other African countries recording high AI usage include South Africa at 89.9 percent and Nigeria at 89.4 percent.
