NAIROBI, Kenya, July 26 – New vehicles sold by Isuzu East Africa and Simba Corp dropped in the half-year to June of this year amid tough economic conditions.
Data from the Kenya Motor Industry Association (KMIA) shows that sales plunged to 2,503 from 2,867 during a similar period last year.
Some of the vehicles sold under the Isuzu name include trucks, buses, sport utility vehicles, and pick-ups.
Similarly, a total of 581 units were sold by Simba Corp down from 681 in the review period.
Isuzu, however, dominates the industry with 44.1 percent of market share, with Simba Corp at 10.2 percent.
Total vehicles sold in the period fell to 5,679 from 6,492 in the previous period.
CFAO, whose brands include Hino, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz, registered an improvement after vehicle sales increased by nearly 10 percent to 1,908.
