NAIROBI, Kenya November 22 – An image purportedly showing Kenyans queuing for relief food in Mt Kenya Region is not true.
The image depicts a long queue of Kenyans waiting for what has been described as aid food due to the ravaging drought facing most parts of the country.
The image has been circulating on social media, particularly on Twitter to depict a desperate situation in Kenya which is among countries facing severe drought in the horn of Africa.
The post which was widely shared stated, ”The same way you lined up to send Uhuru [Kenyatta) to Ichaweri and now the same way you line up for relief food. Not, talking about never learning the lesson.”
A reverse search of the image via Tin Eye shows that the picture was taken in May 2020 as people lined up at a food distribution site in Pretoria, South Africa.
The picture was taken at the peak of the CoronaVirus pandemic in South Africa as the queuing individuals are seen wearing masks.
