Bolt reiterates expansion plans in Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 – Ride-hailing platform Bolt has reiterated plans to expand its services across the country as it seeks to bring online taxis as well as food delivery services closer to Kenyans.

The Estonian-based firm announced yesterday that it is eyeing unserved towns.

Currently, Bolt services are in major towns and cities in Kenya, such as Nairobi and Mombasa, among others, with a big expansion opportunity in many metropolises.

”In 2024, we plan to invest 100 million Euros (16 billion shillings) in the market to further increase our footprint across the country by expanding our services into more cities and town centers,” said Bolt Kenya Country Manager Linda Ndungu during a sit-down with journalists.

As the transition to clean modes of transport gains pace, it also announced that it will be rolling out its fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) in the foreseeable future.

Under this, fossil fuel vehicles will be retired in a gradual process, as the firm promised.

It plans to achieve the above-mentioned goals through local and foreign partnerships, creating thousands of jobs and supporting local communities.

”We are also keen on forging partnerships with like-minded businesses to further push for the adoption of electric vehicles, starting with e-bikes,” she added.
