NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 5 — Detectives in Murang’a are holding 26 Ethiopians believed to have entered the country without proper authorization.
The suspects, all women, were apprehended on Monday following a tip-off that led law enforcement to a residence in the area in Gitungano sub-location.
A joint operation was carried out by a multi-agency team, comprising members from the National Police Service, the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU), and National Government Administration Officers led by Murang’a County Police Commander David Mathiu.
Police said the suspects were confined in an incomplete house belonging to a resident whom authorities identified as Philip Kamwaro Munyua.
“They could not explain their motive, and their destination due to language barrier,” read a police report obtained by Capital FM News.
Detectives disclosed that the detainees’ ages span between 22 and 32 years old.
Alongside the Ethiopian nationals, law enforcement also apprehended the homeowner and another resident named David Gachengu Kangori during the operation.
Authorities seized twenty-six passports and sixteen mobile phones.
All the suspects were held at the Murang’a Police Station as investigations got underway.
