NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 21 – Githunguri Constituency has seen major improvements in public education following the completion of a school infrastructure and feeding programme led by area Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba.
The initiative targeted sanitation, learning infrastructure, security, and student welfare across public primary and secondary schools in the constituency.
New ablution blocks were constructed in nine schools, including Ciiko Primary, Kwa Mukua Secondary, Kiambururu Secondary, Githioro Primary, Thuita Primary, Mitahato Primary, Githiga Primary, Gathiruini Primary, and Riamute Primary schools, addressing long-standing sanitation gaps.
More than 1,000 lockers were distributed to 11 primary schools to improve classroom organisation and protect learning materials, while perimeter walls were built at Githiga and Kiawairia primary schools to enhance security. Ciiko Primary School also received cabro installation across its compound to improve drainage and accessibility.
Laboratories were completed at Matuguta, Githunguri, Ndireti, Ngewa, and Githunguri primary schools to support science learning, while four classrooms at Gathugu Primary School were renovated.
The programme also included a feeding initiative covering all public secondary day schools in the constituency, providing learners with hot meals during the school day. In addition, parents of students in secondary day schools will continue to pay Sh500 in fees for the second year running.
Wamuchomba said the projects were aimed at improving learning conditions and reducing barriers to education, particularly for vulnerable households.
The developments form part of ongoing efforts to improve access to education and learning outcomes in Githunguri.
