NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 28 — United Kingdom’s National Air Traffic Service (NATS) has announced the restoration of its flight planning system which suffered a technical glitch on Monday impeding its Air Traffic Control capabilities.
NATS announced a decision to limit traffic flow earlier in the day after an outage forced it to revert to manual processing of flight plans.
“We have identified and remedied the technical issue affecting our flight planning system this morning,” the agency said in an update adding that its engineers were ” carefully monitoring the system’s performance as we return to normal operations.”
NATS said it was working in concert with airlines to clear a blacklog triggered by Monday’s outage.
“We are now working closely with airlines and airports to manage the flights affected as efficiently as possible.”
The agency explained that with the technical hitch, system’s ability to automatically process flight plans was impeded, “meaning that flight plans had to be processed manually which cannot be done at the same volume, hence the requirement for traffic flow restrictions.”
