NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 21 – Samsung Electronics has rolled out its 3D Map View feature globally, following its initial unveiling at CES 2024, and it is now available in all countries with SmartThings access.
The feature, which is integrated into the SmartThings app, allows users to visualize their home’s layout in 3D using their devices, allowing them to conveniently adjust lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy consumption whenever and wherever.
It addresses the challenge of handling the increasing number of smart devices by providing a comprehensive view of the home.
Unlike its previous 2D version, the updated 3D Map View utilizes spatial AI and LiDAR sensors in Samsung gadgets to accurately map a home’s layout.
This enhanced version offers improved spatial understanding for users.
Additionally, the feature has been upgraded with advanced filtering options for efficient device monitoring and control.
Samsung plans to introduce AI characters to enhance user interaction with the service.
Map View is accessible through the SmartThings app on Android, iOS, and TVs, with support for additional hubs like Family Hub refrigerators coming soon.
Initially launched in Korea and the United States, it is now available worldwide where SmartThings is accessible.
“Samsung is constantly working to enable customers to control their home devices without any inconvenience at any time and place, and Map View is the result of these efforts,” said Seungbeom Choi, Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics.
“We will continue to introduce a variety of relevant services and features so our customers can enjoy optimal smart home experiences with a better life,” he added.
Samsung is also working on expanding Map View to apartments and office spaces through collaborations with construction companies, aiming to create smarter environments for users globally.
They plan to introduce optimized user experiences for large screens and Quick Control functionalities in the future.
