NAIROBI, Kenya July 30 – President William Ruto has nominated Dorcas Agik Oduor for the position of Attorney General.
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei announced Oduor’s nomination on Tuesday.
Currently, Senior Counsel Oduor serves as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
If her nomination is approved by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments, Oduor will make history as Kenya’s first female Attorney General.
“Oduor has demonstrated unimpeachable integrity, impressive professional competence, and steadfast commitment to the rule of law,” Koskei said.
Oduor’s nomination as Kenya’s Chief Legal Adviser comes after President William Ruto dissolved the Cabinet on July 11, 2024, resulting in the departure of the previous officeholder, Justin Muturi.
President Ruto has since nominated Muturi as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management.
On July 19, 2024, while announcing the first batch of Cabinet Secretary nominees, President Ruto initially nominated former Trade and Investments Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano for the position of Attorney General.
However, Miano was later reassigned and nominated as the Tourism Cabinet Secretary.
The new nominee for the Attorney General post, Oduor, has previously applied for a position as a judge on the Court of Appeal and for the chairperson role at the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), although she was not successful in either bid.
