NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 13 – The latest research by Infotrak has put Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s popularity rating at 43 percent ahead of his closest rival Deputy President William Ruto.
According to the study, Ruto’s popularity rating is at 37 percent while that of Roots Party Presidential candidate George Wajackoyah is at 4 percent.
“We have Raila with 43 percent which generally translates to 9.4 million votes, he was at 9.3 percent in end of June. Ruto is at 37 percent which translates to 8.1 percent based on the current number of registered voters. He has lost about 300,000 votes because in end of June he had 8.4 million votes,” Infotrak Chief Executive Officer Angela Ambitho said.
The survey which was conducted on the 6 and 7 of July showed Waihiga Mwaure of Agano party has a 0.1 percent popularity rating across the country.
“David Waihiga is at 0.1 percent popularity and the undecided has gone down to 16 percent and we can essentially say that the gains which have so far been made have gone to George Wajackoyah,” she said.
Odinga remained the most popular presidential candidate in Nairobi County at 49 percent while Ruto is at 30 percent.
Infotrak indicated that Odinga’s popularity also shot up after Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka rejoined the Azimio camp.
On the other hand, DP Ruto’s popularity remain strong in the Mt Kenya after the research showed that he enjoys an overwhelming support from all the 11 counties which make up the vote rich region.
9,000 respondents were interviewed across 290 constituencies with the research firm indicating that the response rate stood at 96 percent.
The survey further showed that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by DP Ruto is more popular at 33 percent followed by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) 31 percent.
However, the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition enjoys 43 percent popularity while Kenya Kwanza is sat 38 percent.
