NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 5 – The Public Service Commission (PSC) is looking to hire a vice chancellor of the recently established Open University of Kenya.
In a public notice, PSC welcomed all interested candidates to submit their applications before February 24, 2024.
A prospective candidate should be a Kenyan, be a full-time professor, and possess at least 10 years of academic and research experience at the senior level, among other attributes.
”Pursuant to the provisions of Section 35(1)(a) (v) of the Universities Act, 2012 amended through Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act No. 18 of 2018, the Public Service Commission invites applications from suitably qualified persons to be considered for appointment to the following position,” read the notice by PSC CEO Simon Rotich.
Based in Machakos County, the university was awarded a charter by President William Ruto in August last year, becoming the first fully-fledged digital learning institution in the country.
Then, the Head of State said that his administration was keen on offering competitive and industry-driven education.
Subsequently, the higher learning institutions signed a course-sharing agreement with India’s Indira Gandhi National Open University.
“We just signed an MOU between the Indira Gandhi National Open University and the Open University of Kenya to share courses, to share capacities, so that we can train our people more, added on to the human capital we already have,” said President Ruto earlier.
