NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 31 – Police on Friday arrested 13 Burundian nationals who are in the country illegally.
The illegal immigrants are detained in Kuria West, Migori pending their arraignment in court.
“They will remain in custody before being handed over to the Immigration Department for further action,” Kuria West sub-county police commander Cleti Kimaiyo said.
According to police, the Burundians were arrested at Isebania town by police following a tip-off from members of the public.
Kimaiyo said the aliens had been dropped off at the Isebania bus park by bodaboda riders from Tanzania.
He said the aliens were attempting to board vehicles plying the Migori-Kitale route when they were intercepted by police.
The Bodaboda riders who had dropped them escaped on sensing police were after them.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the riders.
Kimaiyo told all foreigners, with plans to visit Kenya, to use appropriate channels while reiterating that people without valid traveling documents will be stopped and sent back to their country.
“Even if one is from the region under East Africa Community they need to follow some procedures. Come through the entry areas and you will be welcomed. It is the procedure,” he said.
Kimaiyo appealed to any members of the public, who might have information regarding any illegal aliens to report to relevant authorities and support the police in the ongoing operation.
There has been a spike in cases of coming in of aliens from neighboring countries in an alarming rate.
