THARAKA NITHI, Kenya, Mar 12 – Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has reiterated his support towards President William Ruto delinking his support from the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Movement.
Murungi who was trounced in the Meru gubernatorial contest said he was hoodwinked to support the Raila Odinga-led coalition.
“Those who those old days remember the politician who was known as Paul Ngei who said that kuteleza sio kuanguka. So Kiaritu aliteleza lakini hajaanguka.Even President William Ruto is my friend for many years and he knows we have worked with him for so many years,” said Murungi.
“And now I have said 100 percent I am behind President William Ruto,” he added
The Former County Boss also stated that his Devolution Empowerment Party will now focus its support on the Kenya Kwanza Alliance government.
“You know I am the driver of Mbus and now all the people of Mbus I have told them to join Kenya Kwanza Alliance. So my brother you can count on us,” said Murungi.
He was speaking during a thanksgiving service in Tharaka Nithi County where President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua are currently leading.
On September 2nd, Murungi ditched Azimio and joined President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance ahead of the outcome of the Presidential election petition at the Supreme Court.
He was received at Ruto’s Karen residence where he said that both his Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) and Kenya Kwanza have the same ideologies.
Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza beat Kiraitu by garnering 209,148 votes, against her closest competitor Mithika Linturi of UDA who polled 183, 859 votes.
Kiraitu finished third with 110, 814 votes
