NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 24 – The officials of Syokimau Farm Limited have sought the intervention of the National Assembly Committee on Lands to recover land belonging to their shareholders.
Documents scrutinized by the Committee chaired by North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko revealed that the Syokimau Farm Limited was registered in 1965 with the company owning a 4,000-acre land in Machakos County, where the Syokimau Estate is located.
The estate as constituted on LR No. 12715 and its shareholders is a prime property that borders Nairobi County and Jomo Kenyatta Airport.
In their submissions, the representatives of Syokimau Farm Limited highlighted numerous challenges and controversies over the ownership and management of the land since 1985.
“Some of our directors have been involved in fraudulent and illegal activities, such as selling company assets to non-members, forging titles and bank charges, and impersonating the leadership of the company,” the shareholders said in their submission.
They further accuse some of the directors of impersonating the Chairperson and filing a judicial review to block their case.
The directors of Syokimau Farm Limited claim that since the company lacks some vital registration documents, former officials of the company have been selling land to unsuspecting buyers.
The representatives have appealed to the Lands Committee to intervene and protect their land rights, by instituting investigations into the existence of Syokimau Farm Limited as a company and its leadership, the status of land reserved for public use, and the ownership of parcels of land held by Syokimau Farm Limited for its shareholders.
Syokimau Farm Limited with over 800 members registered in 1965 owned the 4000-acre land in which the current Syokimau estate stands. Currently, about 460 acres are yet to be sold from the original parcel.
In June 2021, five directors wrote to the then Interior Cabinet Secretary ‘Fred Matiangi asking his office to intervene and stop the alleged fraud.
The group told Matiang’i that a man who disguised himself as the administrator of the company had been selling the land without the owners’ consent.
